Paul & Joe Confetti and YSL Summer Polishes

Just a quick post on a few new polishes I picked up at Bergdorfs recently.

First up is another polish from Paul & Joe Summer. I was initially going to pass on Confetti because I thought I may have a few too similar polishes but turns out it is pretty unique among my glitters. It's clear with multi colored glitters. I thought it would appear more silver on the nail but you can still see the different colors.

Swatch is about 3 coats

Mobile phone pic. This was 4 coats

The other polishes I snagged were from YSL. Love the bright yellow and blue that are offered as part of their summer collection. I also picked up a creme blush and lipstick but I have not used them yet. The polishes were really smooth and opaque. Swatches below are 2 coats.

Love the brightness of this yellow.

YSL Pure Chromatics

I was going to continue with posts on the Chanel summer items but my camera battery needed to be charged. So I'm taking a moment to post on the YSL Pure Chromatics eyeshadow palettes that were recently released. I had ordered palettes no.4 and no.6 when I saw they were available on the YSL website. I was super excited to try these shadows out since the colors looked amazing.

They come in a gold casing much like the YSL quints. I hate this casing though because it scuffs easily and is a fingerprint magnet

The shadows can be used wet or dry. In the dry form, the shadows give a soft shimmery look. When used wet, they give intense color with metallic sheen.
The palettes come with a special rubber applicator for using the shadows wet.

I haven't quite mastered using it and for now I'm going to stick with using a brush.

Wet swatches from palette no. 6 blended out a bit on the bottom

These shadows are nice when dry but just absolutely gorgeous when wet. The color combinations are also interesting and I'm looking forward to playing with these a lot more.

YSL Paris Passion Spring 2010

I was pretty excited when I saw the YSL Spring Paris Passion 2010 collection. I always want pastel shadows to work for me but often they come off too chalky or just not vibrant enough for me so I had high hopes for the new 5 colour Parisian Sky palette. I wasn't completely disappointed but it didn't blow my socks off either.

The palette has shadows in Sky blue, grey blue, lilac, light pink and a dark purple brown.

The five colors are very soft, pigmentation was okay. On the eyes, the color seem to show up a bit better than the swatches; probably because I do wear lid primer but swatch without any primer. On fairer complexions the pastel colors would most likely show up even better. Of the 5 colours though; the purple brown color was strangely the most difficult color to get to show up when I was swatching.

Another item that caught my attention was the face powders. There was one that was listed as a highlighter shade and another listed as a blush shade. The highlighter contains shimmery shades while the blush has a softer finish. I picked the blush since the thought the highlighter would be too sheer for me. The packaging for the face powders are adorable. It comes with a small pouch and the address on the pouch is also printed on the outside of the compact.

A few new lip colors were also released. There were 2 new Golden glosses, 4 new Gloss volupte and 4 rouge volupte. I picked the Gloss volupte in Vanilla Pink and Rouge volupte in Faubourg Peach.

Here's a comparative pic of Faubourg peach (on left) next to Tender peach (on right):

The Paris passion collection was pretty, but the eyeshadow and face powder didn't wow me as I would have liked although I do love the design for the blush. The new lip colors are quite pretty though and worth checking out since there are many new shades released.

YSL Mauve Silk Nail Lacquer

Here's one item from the Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2010 collection that I picked up. I love lilac colored polishes and was really pleased with the Mauve Silk polish. It's a pretty light purple that doesn't scream pastel and was pretty opaque after 2 coats. It's my first ysl polish and the wear was really good. I'm pretty bad with my nails (typing, scrapping off labels etc) and this polish held up well.

Since I've been unable to resist the spring collections, I've added a few items to my blogsale (some eye shadow palettes and face items) and lowered a few prices. Click link on the right or here to go to the page. Thanks for looking!

YSL Tresor D'Afrique Lip Palette

I felt that a better mood would be set for this post on the YSL Tresor D'Afrique if I wrote it in French; however, my many years of studying the language in no shape gave me proficiency in that languge so entry in English it is! The Tresor D'Afrique lip palette is part of the YSL summer collection. I had thought I would fall for the quint eyeshadow palette from this release but instead the lip palette has wooed me. It comes in a nice matte dark bronze compact which I love because it doesn't show any smudgy fingerprints that the shiny compacts do and comes with a velvet brown sleeve.

Inside contains 4 punchy colors that are great for summer. Each lip color has a watermelon scent similar to the Rouge volupte lip stick. There is a shimmery bubblegum pink gloss, a medium orange gloss with no shimmer, a sheer shimmery pale pink gloss, a burgundy gloss and a fuchsia lipstick. I was worried the bubblegum pink pink gloss would be too sheer but I was wrong and it showed up brighter than I expected. The orange color is a bit bright as well but still wearable. Although the colors are pretty bright, they can be blotted down for a sheerer look.

I am really glad I picked up this palette. I normally don't like lip palettes but all the lip colors have great pigmentation to them and show up well on my medium pigmented lips. I've worn the glosses alone and they've lasted a few hours (no serious eating involved). A nice way to kick off summer!
